The Mysterious Cities of Gold (JPN)

Post by ghostz »

Ok after the Sandybell original Japanese version here comes another rare one, from The Mysterious Cities of Gold, featuring Zia.
Well you all know that the Western version which was dubbed in many languages is a bit different from the original one, it lacks the extended part or alternative scene from the Japanese one. Also the dubbed ones have a lower darker quality too.

Now the extended/alternative scene

I know that it's not an amazing difference, but we get to see a great closeup and the quality is HD too.

Thanks for the quality update. I think there was a remake, it should be quite new. Did anyone check the new show for DID?

It is not a remake, but a direct continuation of the old show.
And regarding all the efforts done to finally come to this, I think the new season of mysterious cities of gold deserve a little bit more than being considered as a potential DID-source.

Well I must say that the show is quite enjoyable having seen the first two eps. But seriously dude this is a DiD board. :P People are going to wonder if it has DiD. Chill out. There's a TON of great shows that have been put on here only because there was DiD involved. That's the point of the forum. ^^

Sure, just meaning, first reaction could be different :)
I like DIDs, but I am not truly obsessed with them.

Oh yeah, I got the Japanese version of this off Nyaatorrents a couple years ago when it was first put up there. Looks like that torrent still has a few seeders if you guys want to download the full version of ep 1 or the whole series: http://www.nyaa.eu/?page=torrentinfo&ti ... howfiles=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It was great to finally see that extended part of the scene with the extra gagged closeups of Zia. :) Some of you younger pups may not realize this, but that extra scene baffled and frustrated the crap out of guys like myself, Suicide, and the western DiD community at large for many years before we ever learned the truth of its source. We had these caps of it from that old Japanese site "Gag & Boots," but we had no idea where that scene actually came from. Eventually, dub versions of ep 1 turned up, so we found the first half of it. But the other scene still remained a mystery, and I think most of us naturally assumed it was probably another episode in the series, but of course that turned out to be wrong. I can't recall now who first discovered the true origin of those extra shots, but thanks once again! You solved one of the great mysteries of the DiDiverse! :D

The great question is, why in hell did they need to edit that out of the English version? Actually, I think it may have been cut from all the foreign dub versions. Not sure on that. All I know is the only one we know for sure has the unedited full scene is the Japanese version. My only thought is maybe it was a time constraint thing where they were trying to keep the episodes under a certain runtime or something. It's certainly one of the more unique DiD scenes in animation history though to be trimmed down like that. I can't think of another one off the top of my head.
