This was a time when the magazine tried to appeal both young and teenage readers with some rather mature stories between rather classical Disney stuff.
Alex Lechat is a PI, "Lechat" means "Thecat", because as you can guess, there is a cat involved : one evening at midnight Alex had a car accident by trying to avoid an errand cat. Since then, every day at midnight his spirit wanders in the cat's body....Who does not have a life of its own, during the day the cat sleeps. And Alex is also in a kinda catatonic sleep when he is the cat (which is sometimes an issue when the baddies try to kill him when he is defensless). He becomes human again at sunlight.
In this episode, a mad scientist used gamma rays to create gigantic vegetables that are self-sufficient and can search for their own food, which makes it cheap to make them grow as they don't need any soil and sun to grow, just basic nutriments. He uses this to make millions by selling vegetable soup to supermarkets, but his vegetables generate unpleasant side effects on humans (skin and hair colour alterations). Alex goes to investigate with a friend, and they both get captured, tied up in the nutriment bucket so they get eaten by the pumpkins (yeah crazy). Oh and the cat is usually ginger, but the scientist used gamma rays on it, so that's why he looks like Hulk
